Children's book: Redesigning Front cover and First Page
I start by illustrating one of the spot illustrations first to see the colour difference that RGB converted into CMYK. This is because I want to print off the final book when I 'm done. When I converted it, the colours were dull so I had to change a few of the main colours I normally use in the illustrations. The orangutan looks interesting. The colours used are bright and great for a child audience. But while illustration this orangutan I realised I didn't like how the fur looked.
Another issue was that the illustration quality wasn't the best it could have been. This was due to a sizing error with the canvas. So I decided I would change the size and how I normally draw the fur. Here's the updated version of the Tan and his mother. As you can see it is more crisp and the fur looks softer than how I previously drew it. I think as characters for a children's book they stand out and look interesting. I also think that the use of plants behind the characters makes the orange stand out more.
I then needed to recreate the front cover to change it from RGB to CMYK. When I drew the background I thought it looked interesting, bright and colourful. However, when I included Tan it was hard to look at. Your eye didn't know where to focus.
So I recreated the cover again, using more blues and greens in the background instead of yellow and green. I think this looks effective and I don't think there's too much going on in the cover anymore. When I developed the cover, I also included my name, however, I felt that the text didn't stand out.
So, then I changed it to futura. It's more playful and easier to read. I also added shading under the text to make it stand out more.
