Illustrated Trail: Designing the Map and Leaflet
Here's the completed full cover of the leaflet. I wanted to include Perseus winking with a thumbs up on the back to make the children following this trail feel like they have worked together with Perseus to complete it. I didn't want to add any buildings or columns in the background so I left it with a circle around Perseus. If I wanted to add more detail I could include buildings and the columns in the design.
I wanted the map to look like a treasure map/ pirates map. So I added a coffee stain over the top of it on procreate. At first I had the opacity of the original map to be low but still visible. I think this looks okay but it could be improved.
So, I just left it as the coffee stain. I think this looks okay. But because I want the children to hang it up on their walls once they have finished. I think the coffee stain looks plain and uninteresting. I have decided that moving forward it will be colourful and something that children will happily take home and cherish.
Because I wanted this illustrated trail to have a chance to collect stickers and add them to the map, I decided that there needed to be a place holder for the children who forget or don't realise they can have stickers. The first one I made was of Perseus. I have made him black and gold, similar to some experiments I created last semester. I am happy with the outcome of Perseus.
I also made a Medusa version of this and I think these look very effective. Some of the snakes could be improved though.
Heres what the two black and gold versions of Perseus and Medusa look like together. They look interesting. However, I still think the map needs to be more exciting for children to look at.
