Penguin Book Cover: development

Because the original drawing of this book cover idea was very dull, I decided to make the opacity of the school building lighter. This was to draw more attention to the girl's in the foreground. Although this looks more effective, I also wanted to see what they would look like without any building in the background.
So, I made the silhouettes bigger and took out the background altogether. I think this makes the book cover more striking. However, It doesn't really tell you what the story is about.
To start off my development with my other cover idea, I wanted to draw silhouettes of the suspects in the book. This is to put them in a window each. They are simplistic and easy to replicate throughout.

Then I started to design some logos for the series. One of the logos I found most interesting was the top right one. I think this is due to it having the two main characters found in the entire series. However, this logo seems too similar to the original series logo and I want mine to be different and stand out. I also found the magnifying glass effective and more original than the other. This is because it has both the girls in the glass and is still striking.

I wanted the book cove to look less squashed so I decided to lower the building down on the page and add in more sky. I think the smoke coming out of the chimney look more effective here, but I still think this building looks plain- even with the added silhouettes. The silhouettes are hard to see and end up blending in with the building. When I develop this even more I will make the building smaller and have the two main characters in front of it like I previously have done.

Here is the cover with the logo add on. I don't like how it looks. It looks like it doesn't completely fit. I will change this going forward.
