Penguin Book: Cover Development

For the penguin book cover, I decided I wanted to add more colour into it. This is so it's more eye-catching for children to look at. So, I decided I would add in my interpretations of Hazel and Daisy. I think think the outcome is good and having the school in the background is an interesting concept. However, I am not sure what to include on the back cover. Also the front might need a road or path leading to the school.
This is the just the front cover to see what it looks like with the path in the front. I think it looks okay but the background still looks plain to me.
I decided to make a version of the cover with just the house. This was to see what it looked like on it's own and whether I should add people in the windows. When I originally drew it I thought the darkness of the house added to the moody feeling of the book. However, I think it should be lightened.
When I lightened the house up. It made the whole cover look more appealing. I think using a light and bright background is more effective to children readers than using dark colours.
I then decided to add Daisy and Hazel in as silhouettes to see what it would look like. I don't particularly like how this experiment ended up but I'm glad I included it so can see for myself that Hazel and Daisy look better in colour than in silhouettes.

I then decided to add back in Daisy and Hazel- in colour. However I decided change Daisy to standing so that she didn't look like she was floating. I think this cover is more interesting than the cover with the school in the distance. The back cover also looks effective on it's own too.
Here's just the front cover. Overall I think it's very effective. However, the feet have been cut off. So, I will need to add in ground underneath the girls and makes them smaller to the page so its not as jarring.
