Penguin Book: Cover Development
For the penguin book cover, I decided I wanted to add more colour into it. This is so it's more eye-catching for children to look at. So, I decided I would add in my interpretations of Hazel and Daisy. I think think the outcome is good and having the school in the background is an interesting concept. However, I am not sure what to include on the back cover. Also the front might need a road or path leading to the school.
This is the just the front cover to see what it looks like with the path in the front. I think it looks okay but the background still looks plain to me.
I decided to make a version of the cover with just the house. This was to see what it looked like on it's own and whether I should add people in the windows. When I originally drew it I thought the darkness of the house added to the moody feeling of the book. However, I think it should be lightened. When I lightened the house up. It made the whole cover look more appealing. I think using a light and bright background is more effective to children readers than using dark colours.
I then decided to add Daisy and Hazel in as silhouettes to see what it would look like. I don't particularly like how this experiment ended up but I'm glad I included it so can see for myself that Hazel and Daisy look better in colour than in silhouettes.I then decided to add back in Daisy and Hazel- in colour. However I decided change Daisy to standing so that she didn't look like she was floating. I think this cover is more interesting than the cover with the school in the distance. The back cover also looks effective on it's own too.
