Penguin Book Development

In response to my group tutorial. I knew I needed to reposition the title so that it wouldn't overlap onto the house and so that it didn't cover Hazel's top of her head. By doing this it makes the cover look more professional and like it has been thought out. I then went on to typing out the blurb on the back cover.

To do this I needed to add it in to photoshop. However, during the process it must have changed the colour of the house in the background to a much lighter shade. It made the children on the front cover grainy as well. I am unsure how this happened and whether something in the settings could have caused this.

So, I went back to procreate to design the cover more. I will hopefully be able to continue most of the process in this app just in case transferring it over to photoshop could lower the quality even more. To develop my book even more I decided I wanted to see what Daisy's hair would look like if it was a brighter yellow. Although it's brighter and more eye catching, I still think I prefer the original hair.

I decided that I wanted my logo to be slightly different and I began experimenting with different colours while also using the whole body in some experiments and using just the face portion in others.

In this version I decided to place the series logo in the top right corner and at the bottom of the spine. I initially wanted the logo to be at the top because it would be opposite to the penguin logo, however, when placing the logo there I realised I didn't like the look of it and it seemed cramped and unreadable.

So, I moved it to the bottom to see if that would make a difference. But it just looked misplaced. This is because having the girls standing next to it in similar positions makes it jarring to look at.

So, I tried out having Hazel and Daisy on the opposite side of the logo and both ways look uneven. It's too heavy on one side and the logo isn't big enough to balance it out. I also thought that using the bodies in the logo make it look clunky and the added detail makes it unnecessary.

So, I then took out the bodies and left it to the silhouettes. This design looks so much better and cleaner. But, the magnifying glass still feels like it's in the wrong place, so I moved it again.

This is the outcome so far and I think it's looking more and more like a book cover. I just need to include the text on the back to make it look more finished.
