Penguin Book; More development with the cover
Because. it looked like Daisy was looking through the magnifying glass with one eye I decided to add in the glass the reflection of her eye so make it more realistic. Although this made a small difference, I knew I need to redraw her in a completely different position to make her look correct.
So, I made her hunch over and look at something on the ground. I decided the most effective and believable option would be footprints. I think this has made a huge difference to Daisy's character and makes the cover more dynamic with the different heights.
I also added in some of the suspects in the windows of the school. I think it adds more to the building and it intrigues the audience. I quickly added in the blurb of the cover to see what colours it could go in. I decided I wanted to use black and white from the start so that the words are more legible. I also like how the text is mainly in the sky. Although my favourite cover is with the full house stretch over both pages, I decided to make my other cover more interesting. I made the girls positioned in front of the house and to frame the image I included trees on either side of them. I had to make Daisy even lower down on the cover to show most of the house. and although it makes the house more clear, Daisy looks more awkwardly positioned in her stance and not well proportioned.
The back cover I designed is terrible. This is what it looks like half finished. Although I haven't finished it, I know I don't want to pursue it any further. I will have to come up with another idea for the back cover.
Because I wasn't sure what to put on the back cover of the previous design, I decided to try out different ways of adding text on the back of my original design. I knew I wanted the text that is meant to be in capital letters to be in my own typography I designed for the authors name. I also wanted the reviews to be in the typography I made for the word 'unladylike'. However, when I completed it I realised that by using all of these elements, it can be hard to look at and to take in.
So, I changed "The First Marvellous Mystery in the bestselling award-winning series" to be in a Times New Roman. This made it more readable, and I just needed to change the reviews into to my own typography.
I then decided to take out my typography in the blurb and only leave it for the 'first marvellous mystery' I don't think I like his version, especially because the typography isn't anywhere else on the back cover. However, I did like how I made the words in bold a different colour to the text.
Here is the back cover all in Times New Roman apart from the review section. Although it's simplistic, it still encompasses the fun with the reviews being in a different typography and having the different suspects in the windows.
