Children's book: redesigning last few pages (black and white)

Page 18 and 19: Black and white
Here's my new design for this page spread. I wanted it to look more sequential and have more interesting perspectives and angles. So, I decided to put turn the double page spread into smaller spot illustrations to fit on to page 18. I then designed a completely new page for 19. I think this looks more exciting for a child to look at. And to see the rhino in motion is dynamic and playful. It shows that rhino and Tan have made a connection. However, I might need to take out a few words from this page before I add colour.

Here's the version where I have shortened the sentences on this page to make it more concise. It looks a lot better and allows the illustrations to speak for themselves.

I haven't changed much of this new double page spread. Mainly because I thought the angle was already interesting. What I have changed is making the text more exciting. When a character shouts or something loud happens, like the rumbling. I want the audience to understand they should read it out loudly, so I made "Hey! Down there!!" Big to stimulate the audience and make it more enjoyable to read.

All that I changed on this double page spread is the text. I shortened it down. However, I want this page to mirror the page when Tan meets Rhino, so I need to make this illustration a spot illustration and add in a full page illustration and one extra spot illustration.

Here's the new version of this page. I prefer this as it's similar to the rhino page and the extra illustrations really add to the story. Like I have said previously, it shows hornbill and Tan creating a connection with each other. I also have shortened the words down even more, and I prefer this more. Before turning this into colour, I will take out a few words from page 23.

I haven't changed much for this double page spread. However because of the changes made to the previous page, I do believe it leads nicely on to this page. I have also shortened the text down further on this page.

Nothing much has changed on this page. Except the added word, "Splash!" This is because adding bigger and more playful text to a page can make it more engaging to the young reader. I also shortened some more of the text on page 27 to make it more concise, this is a theme that has happened throughout me redesigning the pages.

This page hasn't changed much at all. Apart from shortening the text, however, I do think it has made a big difference to the page.
