Children's Book: Making a Pattern for the Front Pages

At first I decided to draw the plants and vegetation that are throughout the book, then I needed to turn it into a pattern, so, I divided it in to 4 and added extra illustrations. This started to look crowded however, I decided to carry on.

Then  I duplicated this layer for times in a square and then replicated it for the other page.
As you can see it still looks crowded and harsh when it's in full colour.
So made the opacity lighter. This made the pattern easier on the eyes however, I still didn't like the outcome.

So I repeated the process with bright colours and with less plants.

Overall, it turned out so much better- even in full colour. I think it will be a nice addition to the book.

Here's the pattern with the opacity taken down. I think I prefer this to the full colour and I will be using it in my book.
